Fighting over bath time!
What goes on in the Coop after a long day of free-ranging? A good ol' dust bath! From what I understand a dust bath will keep the chickens cool and free of mites, fleas, and anything that would love to take up residence under those fluffy feathers. So we keep our little bath full of "dust" made from a mixture of dry clay soil (we have plenty of that around here), sand, wood ash, and diatomaceous earth. They not only love it they fight over who gets to take one first. Often I will find 2 at a time in that little galvanized tub enjoying their dusting. I would hate to see what happens if they go out into the rain immediately after one though! If you keep chickens, what do you make your dust bath out of? Always looking for better ways to improve our Coop.
