The small powder room on the first floor would need to accommodate a barrier-free shower for mom, so we moved the walls in the master bath and shower area to make that possible. This meant we had to re-frame the walls, remove the electrical and plumbing rough-ins and re-rough for the new layout. It's never fun to go backward but this was an important step to make sure we would have the bathroom access our moms would need. The tile on the floor we picked up on Craig's list in Chicago. It wasn't our first choice, but the price was right, so we'll work with it. I was hoping for subway tiles on the walls and guess what we found on sale at Menards - subway tiles to match the 2 x 2-floor tiles. Yeah! The wall tile is halfway done. We still have to finish laying up the shower walls, but it's coming together. Maybe on the next trip, we'll get it done.

We also worked on the drywall in what will become the "moms" room and the master bedroom and the Greatroom. Well, we worked on it along with 3 drywallers! Needed that little extra help getting it done in a timely fashion now that my mom will be moving in with us, progress will slow way down.

The great room is coming together. There are a lot of seams and joints and square corners to work on before its ready for finish paint...but that day is coming soon I hope.

Matt grouting moms bathroom
Our youngest daughter Kari and her boyfriend Kraz joined us for a "work party" week at the end of April 2018 - they touched up the drywall mud in the Greatroom which was no small task! (It's 20' x 30' with 10' tray ceilings and 3 separate trayed areas so lots of corner beads!) they sanded, primed and helped paint the ceiling with it's first coat of finish paint. What a difference it made.
