Trying something old...as new
Since our journey began into a more self-sufficient lifestyle we've been looking at new ways to accomplish "old ways" of doing things. It's not as easy as it sounds, still trying to figure out if it's just hard to do things "the hard way" or just plain hard to develop new habits.
We've also been reading as many blogs, websites, magazines, and books on how to better live like our grandparents once did. A simpler lifestyle. Not easy mind you. They worked the land with their hands and made do with what they had already. Finding a new purpose in old things and living more simply day by day all the while, planning for the future.
One blogger I came across asked how many people were using cloth "paper towels" rather than disposable. Hum. Got me thinking. Could I give up my paper towels? What exactly would that look like in my day to day life? Might be worth giving it a good try don't you think?
So maybe I cheated just a bit...and ordered 100 white cotton shop towels from Amazon. Yeah, I know...not how my grandmother would have done it...she would have cut up old clothes and sheets. But I don't have sheets ready to be cut up just yet and as for old clothes....well I wear them every day working in the yard and on this old house. So I ordered my new cotton "paper" towels online. Hey, free shipping!
I'll let you know how it goes...who knows maybe it will be the best new "old way" of doing things in our quest for a repurposed, re-used, more self-sufficient lifestyle. And...maybe not!
You rock.
