Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink

So we bought this home 10 months ago and are still working on bringing the water inside the house.  At first, it was kind of fun, showering out on the deck overlooking the river below with our small seasonal pond in plain view while using the garden hose hooked directly to the Well house. Actually, at first, it was a lot of fun, feeling the hot sun beating down upon you and a cool breeze wafting by simultaneously.  Before you get the wrong idea...we had a makeshift shower area out on the deck...you know...for a little privacy!  We quickly discovered, however, as the days grew shorter and while the sun had heated the hose water earlier in the day, by the time we were done with our projects the sun had dropped below the tree line and our showers were actually quite chilly!  Fortunately, we were able to jump in the car and head to the Army Corp campground down the street for those really chilly nights.  But after 10 months, I am so ready to have hot and cold running water INSIDE the house!

You might be wondering what's taking so long, well...the Well is actually giving us plenty of water at an amazing rate, but it's a cloudy clay color so we aren't too anxious to connect that to our new water tank and water heater or run it through our new water lines. We aren't sure if the wellhead is dropped to the bottom of the well sucking muck off the bottom or if our well water is just not going to be potable. Will we need to invest in some fancy filter systems? We just need to do some serious research and with all the other things that are vying for our time when we are there for a week or so, it keeps getting pushed back to the "next" trip.  So in the meantime, we've invested in a Royal Berkey Water Filter System for the kitchen counter to give us more options (can't run out of the water to make the coffee ya know).   Should you need new filters if you already have one, Berkey Black replacement filters can be found here! As the bathrooms move closer to completion the need to move the Well issues toward the top of the list also climbs up the list and that makes me happy.  Really happy.

When the Berkey water filter I ordered first arrived I gave it a try with our city water. Oh. My. Goodness.  Water tastes so much better filtered!  I had no idea.  If I had only realized this years ago...what a difference it would have made.  I might actually like to drink plain ol' water if it had tasted this good all the time.  Since then, I've also been reading an awful lot on the importance of filtering out the fluoride and other contaminants found in city water, so whether you have well water or city water you may want to do your own research and try your hand at filtering the water you're drinking too.

Well water users if you have any suggestions for well water filter systems, please let us know in the comment section below.  We'd love to hear what works best for you!
