Building up walls

Normally building up walls is not a good thing, but in this case, it's a very exciting thing. After weeks of tearing down and removing walls, it's time to put them back up. This is such a turning point in any building or remodel project when the framing and mechanicals are roughed in and the drywall goes up. Wow, it really begins to take shape and a sense of accomplishment comes over the project. We were so ready for this turning point to push us forward. It took only a few days to hang the drywall in the rooms we had remodeled and we were ready for the taping and mudding process. Okay maybe ready in theory, but not so ready physically. We were still wiped from the septic project. It just so happened we needed to make a run into town for something and Brian spotted a work truck with a sign on it saying drywall contractor. So what did we do? Pulled up to that truck and asked around for the owner. He came out and spoke with us, maybe he could fit our job into their schedule, he would have to come and take a look at the house first before committing. Brian said, "so what are you doing right now?" He said," heading to lunch", and somehow he agreed to follow us home right then and there to give us a quote.

We decided for both of our sakes it would be easier to hire them by the hour since this wasn't a line item in our budget to hire out the drywall and we could cut our losses early if they weren't performing well. We also realized it would save us weeks of labor rather than trying to do it ourselves. At this point, we had been gone 5 weeks and really needed to think about heading home. But the thought of getting the first-floor living spaces ready for paint was very tempting. Tuesday they showed up and by Saturday night Brian and I were priming the Master Bedroom and hallway and moms bedroom. The living-room still needed a little more touch up before we could prime there, but we were happy. At least three areas felt like we were making headway and it wouldn't take much effort to get those rooms completely finished. Next trip.
