Brush hogging
Can I just begin by saying I want one! Who knew you could mow over trees and thick brush...and all of a sudden a yard would appear? I had no clue, but that's exactly what I witnessed the day Brian and our new friend, Ken headed up to our property on Bull Shoals to fetch our tractor, Maggie. Ken had brought his friend Devon with a smaller tractor and brush hog to help clear our land for the septic system.
The day started out great as the 2 men headed off to pick up our tractor, leaving Devon behind to get to business clearing our land for the septic system. But about 20 minutes into the day, Ken's truck broke down. They were near a truck stop just outside of town so they pulled off the road into the large parking lot there and tore into the engine trying to discover why it wasn't running the way it should.
To make a long story short at 10:00pm, and a bunch of new parts later, they were still no closer to getting it running than they were when they began early in the morning, so they came back to the house and Brian handed them the keys to our van and said see you in the morning. So off went our van, our "ticket home" as Brian always said, with 2 guys we had just met that morning. Our only other contact with them had been through email and phone conversations. Just someone Brian had found on a local Craig's list. We learned they lived almost an hour and a half away so it didn't seem prudent to drive them home. The thought did briefly cross our minds, what if they don't come back in the morning? We don't even know if they gave us their real names!
Morning came...the clock kept ticking off the minutes, it seemed like forever before the truck finally pulled up the driveway. Devon came behind with another truck so they could carry on with the plan to fetch our tractor Maggie from our property up North. This was as it turns out a blessing in disguise as far as I'm concerned. Poor Devon didn't know what to do with himself it seemed, so he just kept clearing land, cutting down trees and grading our driveway waiting for the men to return again this second day. I watched in amazement from inside as the overgrown tangled yard was transformed into a thing of beauty. What an incredible difference. Unless you were there to see it in person it won't mean all that much, suffice it to say I was in awe and for those who know me well that doesn't happen all that often.
